The First Global Patient Safety Challenge team is extremely pleased to announce that the 2010 call to action has been answered and the results are far beyond expectations. Although a goal of 10 000 was set, more than 11 500 health-care facilities have registered their commitment with WHO to improve hand hygiene at the point of patient care!
Today we publish new information on the evidence for hand hygiene. Read more on the global burden of disease caused by health care-associated infections and the evidence for a hand hygiene multimodal improvement strategy.
We are also launching a new tool, the Hand Hygiene Self-Assessment Framework, a validated and systematic tool to help assess hand hygiene promotion and practices in health-care facilities.
REMEMBER, you can still:
* join our webinars on infection control on 5 and 6 May;
* participate in a global observation survey (Moment 1) on or around 5 May 2010 and share your data with WHO if your facility was registered by 30 April, or conduct the survey for your own purposes if your facility registered after 30 April.
