Samuel David Mingo, age 22, of Louisville, Kentucky, in Jefferson County, pleaded guilty on May 17, 2010, to distributing 2,5 dimethoxy-4-ethylphenthylamine, or 2CE, United States Attorney David J. Hale of the Western District of Kentucky announced today.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Transparency Task Force today released 21 draft proposals for public comment on public disclosure policies aimed at helping consumers, stakeholders, and others understand how the agency operates and makes decisions. The Transparency Task Force will review the comments and decide which proposals to recommend for implementation.

21 May 2010 -- Despite a challenging agenda, delegates reached agreement on a large number of resolutions, including a code of practice on the international recruitment of health personnel and a breakthrough global strategy for reducing the harmful use of alcohol. The WHO's Director-General Dr Margaret Chan called the agreements "a gift to public health".

Dennis C. Pfannenschmidt, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, announced today that Curtis L. Hess, age 49, of York, Pennsylvania, was sentenced yesterday to a 16-month term of imprisonment by United States District Court Senior Judge Edwin M. Kosik for introducing misbranded drugs into interstate commerce with the intent to defraud and mislead. Judge Kosik further ordered him to pay a $18,000 fine. Hess also forfeited $76,291.80.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today revised its recommendations for rotavirus vaccines for the prevention of the disease in infants and has determined that it is appropriate for clinicians and health care professionals to resume the use of Rotarix and to continue the use of RotaTeq.

She noted that after 14 years of war, Liberia has made significant progress towards rebuilding the country's health system. Liberia has also progressed towards reaching the Millennium Development Goals but assistance, she says, is still essential.
