| medical lab technician medical laboratory technicians are the highly skilled professionals that perform diagnostic testing to provide information that is essential for answering important medical questions. diagnosing illness and diseases, cancer research, and determining the effectiveness of new drugs are only a few of the areas that would be impossible without tests performed in the laboratory. job description and specific tasks: •the laboratory department operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, including weekends and holidays. •conduct patient in-processing prior to specimen collection, including review of paperwork accompanying patients and cordial guidance and assistance. •perform clinical laboratory tests in all areas as described in following sections of the laboratory: hematology, chemistry, phlebotomy services, urinalysis, serology, microbiology and blood bank. •perform a wide variety of laboratory tests either manually or using automated instrumentation. •quality control procedures as required for all testing performed •perform phlebotomy-related administrative and clerical procedures of the front desk section of the lab. requirements •minimum of 1 full year of experience working as an mlt •national certification is required •graduation from a medical laboratory technician training program. more information •location: naval medical center, portsmouth va •hours: full time night 11pm – 7am | |
