Prof. Komárek successfully passed through the professorial procedure at the end of 2008 and he was in May 2009 appointed Professor of Neurology by Czech President Václav Klaus. Other recent successes include: The Prize of the Health Official - 2008, which was received for his team´s grant project in December 15, 2008.

The Faculty of Medicine (FM) witnessed the birth of the second among the Czech universities in 1919. Since the very beginning it considered education for medical doctors, technicians and researchers its priority. During the more than eighty years of its history it was the affiliation for many experts recognised all over the world. On behalf of all of them, one name should be mentioned here – prominent European cardio-surgeon professor Jan Navrátil (1909 – 1992) who, besides MU Faculty of Medicine, also worked for the Vienna university medical faculty.

The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry in its present form has been presenting instruction since 1947. There are about 460 teachers, 1860 pregraduate students, 230 postgraduate students, and 115 students are taught pregraduate programme in the English language.

The University of Southern Denmark, with campuses located in the southwestern part of Denmark - i.e. Funen, Southern Jutland and Sealand - is a research and educational institution with deep regional roots and an international outlook. Reaching even further south, the university offers a number of joint programmes in co-operation with the University of Flensburg and the University of Kiel. Contacts with regional industries and the international scientific community are strong.
